Sheila began her journey at Franken Construction as an Administrative Assistant, seamlessly managing roles encompassing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables. Her introduction to the construction realm stemmed from familial exposure, igniting a passion that led her to pursue a career in this dynamic industry at the age of 25.

“I believed the position would be a good fit for me since I had been exposed to the construction industry through my husband who has always worked in construction,” Sheila shares. Despite briefly venturing into nursing, her heart remained tied to the construction industry. “While nursing was rewarding, I felt drawn to the type of work I did with Franken Construction Company,” she adds.

Navigating a traditionally male-dominated industry posed challenges, but Sheila’s steadfastness and contributions earned her respect among her peers. “My knowledge and abilities are appreciated by all Franken Construction Company team members.  I do not feel intimidated by this, as male or female, we all have our individual tasks and responsibilities which contribute to the overall success of projects and the company.”

Her journey is not just about personal achievements, but also about fostering inclusivity and positivity within the workplace. “I believe that my approach to work issues, whether interacting with co-workers, customers, or vendors, is tactful and always professional”.

For women aspiring to join the construction industry, Sheila offers valuable advice: “Seek to learn as much as you can, both formally and on the job.” She emphasizes the importance of wearing multiple hats and maintaining self-worth within a team dynamic. “Do not allow team members/co-workers, male or female, to treat you as ‘less than.’ Always remember that you are contributing to the company as a member of a ‘team’ and deserve respect”.

Reflecting on her accomplishments, Sheila takes pride in her journey at Franken Construction. “I am very proud of all that I have learned in my 19 years with Franken Construction Company”. From mastering payroll processes to effectively utilizing accounting software, Sheila’s expertise underscores her invaluable contribution to the company.
